How We Research and Serve the Public
The World and China Institute studies long-term, structural and cross-regional issues arising from China’s interaction with the world. Our researchers prioritise primary sources, cross-verification, methodological transparency and the boundaries of argument, comparing area knowledge, interdisciplinary methods and policy practice within a single problem framework to produce public knowledge that is verifiable, debatable and reusable.
- Continuously tracking trends in global governance, regional security, economic development, society and culture, and science and technology policy;
- Organising cross-country and cross-disciplinary teams for joint research and policy evaluation;
- Convening closed-door dialogues, international conferences, early-career workshops and public lectures;
- Building an academic resource library that is open, citable and clearly labelled with versions and licence terms;
- Providing commissioned research, expert advice and project evaluation for partner institutions.
Independence, Transparency and Public Responsibility
The Institute distinguishes facts, quotations, analysis and claims, and sets out sources, scope of application, funding and any necessary disclosures of interest in its outputs. Matters involving personal data, copyright, partners or public release require the corresponding compliance review and authorisation records.
